Widening its welfare agenda, the Telangana government has announced a novel scheme for the SC/ST/BC girls – Kalyana Lakshmi. A one-time financial assistance of Rs 51,000 will be provided to the bride’s family at the time of marriage to meet the marriage related expenses. A Telangana resident girl, over 18 years of age, belonging to SC or ST communities with a combined annual income of her parents not exceeding Rs 2 lakh is eligible for the Scheme. The Scheme became operational from 2 October, 2014.A Telangana resident girl, over 18 years of age, belonging to BC communities with a combined annual income of her parents not exceeding Rs.1.5 lakh in rural areas and Rs 2 lakh in urban area is eligible for the Scheme. The Scheme became operational from 1st April, 2016.

The Kalyana Laxmi scheme of the State government will be implemented for the Backward Class (BC) and Economically Backward Class (EBC) girls too with retrospective effect from April 1, 2016. Inaugurated a website for the Kalyana Laxmi scheme on 13/05/2016 at  BC Welfare Minister’s chambers in the Secretariat. The scheme would be applicable to the brides who completed 18 years and belong to Telangana. Brides, whose parents’ annual income does not exceed Rs.1.5 lakh in rural areas and Rs 2 lakh in urban area, are eligible.

Telangana Government has allotted Rs 300 crore for the scheme and 58,820 brides will be benefited by this scheme or the Financial year 2016-17. One has to apply online for the scheme at “http://telanganaepass.cgg.gov,in”. The birth certificate, caste certificate and income certificate acquired within six months of the marriage, have to be submitted.  The brides also have to upload a Xerox copy of their bank pass book along with a photograph, wedding card and a marriage registration certificate issued before completion of one month of the marriage. The benefit will be applicable to bride for only one time. The District BC Welfare Department officials would deposit the amount in the brides’ bank account after thorough examination of certificates.  Seeking the cooperation of people in implementing the scheme without any irregularities and adequate steps would be taken by Government to implement the scheme perfectly.
