Revision of cooking cost w.e.f. 1st April, 2018

Subject: Revision of cooking cost @ 5.35% w.e.f. 01.04.2018 during 2018-19 under National Programme of Mid Day Meal in Schools (NP-MDMS) – regarding.
Sir / Madam,
I am directed to say that it has been decided with the approval of the competent authority to increase the cooking cost under National Programme of Mid Day Meal in schools, by 5.35%w.e.f. 1st April 2018 for the year 2018-19 over and above the existing cooking cost. The cooking cost will be shared between the Centre and States in the ratio of 60:40 for non-North Eastern Region (NER) States & UTs with legislature, 100% for UTs without legislature and 90:10 for NER States and 3 Himalayan States viz. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand. The rates of cooking cost admissible w.e.f. 01.04.2018 during 2018-19 for Primary and Upper Primary class would be as under:

I. Primary (1 to 5) Classes New Rates:
a. Cooking Cost per child per day: Rs. 4.35
b. 60:40 non-NER States and UTs with legislature: Rs.2.61 | Rs.1.74
c. 90:10 NER and 3 Himalayan States: Rs.3.91 | Rs.0.44
d. 100% for UTs without legislature: Rs.4.35
II. Upper Primary (6 to 8 and 9th, 10th) Classes New Rates:
a. Cooking Cost per child per day: Rs. 6.51
b. 60:40 non-NER States and UTs with legislature: Rs.3.91 | Rs.2.60
c. 90:10 NER and 3 Himalayan States: Rs.5.86 | Rs.0.65
d. 100% for UTs without legislature: Rs.6.51

The above cooking cost rates indicate the minimum mandatory contribution by the Centre and State Govemments/UTs. However, States I UTs may contribute more than their prescribed share as some StatesIUTs had been contributing more than their minimum mandatory share from their own resources for providing meals with better nutrition under Mid Day Meal Scheme.
You are requested to disseminate the above increase in the cooking cost to all concerned and the field functionries up to school / cooking agency level to ensure prompt implementation of the revised cost with effect from 01-04-2018
