For the holistic development of the child, the Department has been implementing the world’s largest and most unique and outreach programme of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) providing a package of services comprising supplementary nutrition, immunization, health check up and referral services, pre-school non-formal education. There are 35,700 Anganwadi Centers functioning in the State in 149 ICDS Projects.

According to official data from the Department of Women Development & Child Welfare, the Government of Telangana operates 35,700 Anganwadi Centers spread across 149 Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Projects. 

Here is a quick breakdown of how these are organized across the state:Total ICDS Projects: 149 (comprising 99 Rural, 25 Urban, and 25 Tribal projects). Total Anganwadi Centers (AWCs): 35,700. Guidelines for filling up of vacancies of Anganwadi Teachers (AWTs) and Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs)

Government accorded permission to fill up the vacancies of AWT and AWH in a phased manner. In the first phase AWT vacancies (in all areas) and AWH vacancies (only in Tribal areas) should be taken up.

పోస్టుల వారీగా ఖాళీల విభజనమొత్తం 15,982 ఖాళీలలో పోస్టుల కేటాయింపు ఈ క్రింది విధంగా ఉంది:

Educational qualification and Age:

a) Intermediate / 12th Standard is the minimum educational qualification for the post of AWT and AWH.

b) In case of Anganwadi Helper, if no candidate with Intermediate / 12th Standard education qualification is available, the candidate with next lower educational qualification (SSC) can be considered for selection (refer G.O.Ms.No.37, Dept. for WDCW, Dt. 29.12.2022).

c) The candidate for the post of AWT & AWH shall be between 18-35 years age as per Saksham Anganwadi & Poshan 2.0 guidelines.

Selection procedure: 

Selection parameters
▪ For the post of Anganwadi Teacher and Anganwadi Helper, the Candidate shall be a local woman, resident of the ward in respect of urban area; resident of Grampanchayat in respect of rural area where the Anganwadi Centre is located.

▪ The post of Anganwadi Teacher and Anganwadi Helper earmarked for ST habitation as per SC/ST Sub plan, only ST candidate shall be eligible from the same hamlet/habitation.

▪ The post of Anganwadi Teacher and Anganwadi Helper earmarked for SC habitation as per SC/ST Sub plan, only SC candidate shall be eligible from the same Gram-panchayat.

Weightage for selection
Government has informed the weightage for selection as follows (refer G.O.Ms.No.6, Dept. for WD, CW & DW Dt.30.03.2026)

Reservations:
a. The rule of reservation shall be implemented taking ICDS Project as the unit duly following the 100 point roster cycle prescribed in Rule-22 of Telangana State & Subordinate Service Rules, 1996. If there is insufficiency, the eligible reserved candidates when available in the village concerned will be selected. (Refer G.O.Ms.No.7, Dept. for WCD&SC, Dt: 27.1.2012).

b. In case of SC candidates [group-I, II & III], if eligible candidates for appointment to posts are not available to fill up the posts so reserved for the SCs in the roster point, they shall be filled with the candidates belonging to the next group of the Scheduled Castes as specified in section 3 of the Act in terms of orders issued in para-5 of G.O.Ms.10, SCD [POA.A2] Dept. Dated:14.04.2025.

c. While considering disabled persons for selection of AWT/AWH, the instructions issued in Go.Ms.No.39, dated 06.09.2011 Dept. of WCD&SC shall be followed.

d. The roster points shall be continued after the last roster point from previous recruitment notification.

In terms of Saksham Anganwadi & Poshan 2.0 guidelines upto 50% posts of Anganwadi Teacher shall be filled by promotion of Anganwadi Helpers with 5 years of experience subject to availability of vacancies and fulfillment of educational qualifications, track record of service, additional qualification and age criteria. Remaining shall be filled up by notifications.

Selection procedure through Online Anganwadi Recruitment Software Application.

The entire selection process shall be taken up through online Software Application developed by the WD&CW Department for submission of applications by the individuals, generation of selection list, approval of the District Selection Committee and
to issue appointment orders to the selected individuals.

Hence, all the DWOs are hereby instructed to follow the above guidelines and fill up the vacancies of Anganwadi Teachers (in all areas) and Anganwadi Helpers (only in Tribal areas) as per the procedure prescribed and duly following the GOs issued.
